If you have a tab renewal, we are encouraging you to utilize our drop boxes located on the south side of the city center parking lot or in the lobby and enclose the entire renewal form with insurance information filled out and payment in an envelope. If you have a reinstatement fee that you need to pay, you can pay through the phone with a credit card or make an appointment to pay with cash or credit/debit card. St Paul (knowledge test only), Arden Hills, Anoka, Eagan, Plymouth, Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, Willmar, Detroit Lakes, St Cloud, Brainerd, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Bemidji and Fairmont (road tests only). If you are in need of a written test, you will need to schedule with one of the 15 exam stations open in the state. If your drivers license is not expired, you’re asked to please wait until it is closer to expiration to allow those whose license is expired to renew. There will be no drop-ins accepted at this time.

Farm use plates are not permitted for road test purposes.Effective Wednesday (May 20), Hutchinson Motor Vehicle offices will again be open to the public – Monday – Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. * The road test for an agricultural license MUST be taken in a vehicle with Farmer Plates only. The rental of a driving school auto is permitted.Rental cars are acceptable only if the driver taking the test is included on the rental contract as an additional driver and is of contract age.You cannot take your road test if your vehicle does not qualify (see below). The Safety Specialist must be able to reach either the foot brake or parking brake. The vehicle must allow the Safety Specialist access to the emergency brake from the passenger seat.
